Our History

Caritas et Labora is a Spanish expression that translates to “love and labor.” A service cooperative was founded on July 7, 2007, under the leadership of Gaudencio B. Cardinal, the former Archbishop of Manila. The cooperative intends to aid unemployed Filipino residents who are disenfranchised. The organization’s inception may be traced back to Caritas Manila Inc., a non-profit entity that functions as the principal ministry for social care and development within the Catholic Church in the Philippines. Fr. Antonio Cecilio T. Pascual, Chairman of the Board, conceived the cooperative as a solution to the gloomy condition of limited job options and rampant unemployment among potential workers.

REVERENT FATHER

16 years have past a pivotal shift from a single-purpose to a multi-purpose cooperative marked a strategic decision by Caritas et Labora. This shift underscores the cooperative’s unwavering commitment to diversifying income streams for its members. Through a multifaceted approach, the cooperative aims to provide not only employment opportunities but also essential financial tools, including credit facilities, savings programs, and access to necessary goods. This innovative strategy aligns with the cooperative’s mission to address the holistic needs of its members, fostering a sustainable model for financial empowerment.

It is multi-purpose cooperative duly registered with the Corporative Development Authority (making us VAT exempt) and DOLE registered as independent contractor under DO-174, offering business partners with efficient and quality service maintaining pool of competent, trustworthy and responsible members-workers, (Housekeeping, admin/back office staff, security aides, warehouses personnel, skilled/construction workers, cashiers, kitchen staff, nursing orderly, dietary crews, etc.) and Equipment and Cleaning supplies.

Caritas et Labora takes pride in its organizational authenticity and uniqueness, placing a special emphasis on the promotion of labor sectors. Notably, the cooperative celebrates the fact that 5 out of its 7 board of directors are individuals who have been deployed as workers. This commitment reflects our dedication to the genuine representation and empowerment of the labor force within our cooperative and striving to provide diverse opportunities that uphold the dignity of work in all its facets.
